How it works

The replay

Every Dota 2 match is recorded by Valve. DotaJudge downloads it (or reads the .dem file you load) and rebuilds it second by second: hero positions, gold, experience, items, abilities, damage, deaths, wards and runes.

In your browser

Reading the replay and the analysis run directly in your browser, thanks to WebAssembly. The replay is never uploaded to any server: only the final report reaches our database, if you are logged in.

Your role

The coach figures out on its own which lane and position (1-5) you played, from where you were in the first minutes and how much you farmed compared to your teammates. Each area weighs differently in the grade depending on the role.

Pros on the patch

For each hero we take up to 500 professional games on the current patch (OpenDota data) and compute, for the same position: last hits and gold at 10' and 20', GPM, XPM, deaths, wards, damage, item timings. If the hero has few pro games, we use the role medians.

The grades

Matching the pros is worth 80 points (grade A). S starts at 90, B at 60, C at 45, below that it's D. The final grade is the average of the areas weighted by your role.

The mistakes

Each rule produces a finding with the minute, your numbers, the pros' numbers and what to do next time: avoidable deaths, lost lane, minutes without farm, late items, fights where you were too far forward or absent, ganked teammates you didn't help, unused TPs, an enemy carry left to farm.
